There is a person behind this, not a front desk

Avora is run by the people who answer the phone. That makes a difference in small ways that are hard to advertise and easy to notice: the shopping already done when you land, somebody who knows what the fare should be, a driver we have actually used. Ask for any of it — most of it costs nothing.

• Someone to meet your flight

  A driver at arrivals with your name, at a fare agreed before you land.

  Send us the flight number. Late arrivals are the normal case here, not a favour — most flights from Europe and the Gulf land after ten.

• Your fridge stocked before you arrive

  Tell us what you want in and it is there when you open the door.

  Coffee, milk, water, whatever you actually eat. We buy at the local price and show you the receipt — this is not a marked-up minibar.

• Errands while you are working

  The pharmacy run, the SIM card, the parcel, the thing you forgot.

  Guests here for treatment or on a tight work schedule use this most. Ask in the morning and it is usually done by the afternoon.

• A local who knows the city

  Not a tour script — someone to tell you which matatu, which price, which street.

  Where to eat on a Tuesday, what a taxi to Karen should cost, which market is worth the trip. Ask on WhatsApp; it costs nothing.

• Days out, arranged properly

  The national park, Karen, the Rift Valley, a weekend on the coast.

  We book with drivers and guides we have used ourselves, and tell you honestly when something is a tourist trap or a four-hour drive for a thirty-minute view.

• Housekeeping and laundry

  Daily except Sundays and public holidays, at a time that suits you.

  Included in the rate, not an extra. There is a washing machine in the apartment, and a laundry service if you would rather not.
